Commodity Companies Are Showing Signs Of Stress

by Greg Schnell

$COPPER bounced a little last week, but we continue to see some weakness in the big miners. All of these commodity companies are below the 10-week moving average. Most of the charts would suggest a trend of lower highs and lower lows. TECK has lower highs and even lows. This is concerning. This weakness in the miners is not at all comforting. The Shanghai market ($SSEC) also closed the month breaking the year long up trend. The Shanghai market broke to new lows in relative strength. Looking at the chart, the Shanghai dropped below the 10 WMA and is trying Read More

Gold Stalls, Miners Underperform, Caution Once Again!

by Greg Schnell

Gold is at a major inflection point on the chart. Technicians of all persuasions will be checking out this chart. However, there are multiple technical views of the same chart. The RSI on the following chart suggests Gold is back in a bear market. The RSI is at the top level (~60) for a bear market rally. The MACD right at zero doesn't give us any clues. Secondly, a more bullish view shows a typical major base setting up with the head and shoulders base.  The bottom line is the Gold chart could rarely be at such a Read More

What A Difference A Day Makes To Gold Stocks

by Greg Schnell

Yesterday, I wrote about how Gold was just drizzling along. This morning, Gold jumped on the open and continues to soar. Currently at the time of writing, Gold is at 1275 and running. The GLD chart shows the move intraday. Looking inside the zoom box panel on the right, this is the start of the move I thought we might get a few weeks ago.  Here is the GDX. Look at the soaring SCTR. This bodes well for a continuation move. I mentioned on the Canadian Technician video last week that there were a lot of Gold related stocks moving into the top performance Read More

Gold Drizzles, NatGas Pauses, Oil Surges

by Greg Schnell

For Gold traders, GLD is back where it was 10 days ago after shooting higher on Friday morning, then reversing. This frustrating trading action has made it difficult for any trend followers to profit in here. The SCTR continues to show GLD as one of the weakest ETF's out there. The purple Relative Strength compared to the $SPX shows a flat, inline performance. A breakout from this 4 month base would probably attract  lot of buyers, but until they show up for work to push this higher, we seem content to trade just under the long term average. In the zoombox on the right, we can see the Read More

Checking In On Currencies - PnF Chart Style Tip

by Greg Schnell

Turn-around Tuesday was an interesting day. The US Dollar ($USD) moved higher, but there were all kinds of interesting technicals. The RSI touched 30 and bounced so perhaps we can expect a rally for a few days from here. The price box is loaded with technical signals. First of all, a bounce off the 200 DMA is a logical place for some bounce. The last time the $USD tested the 200 DMA was the overnight low on the US Election results. One of the concerns for technicians expecting the dollar to go higher, would have been the break below 99.19 at the horizontal support Read More
