The Utilities SPDR (XLU) is not partaking in the 2010 market advance. While the S&P 500 is up over 6% year-to-date, the defensive oriented XLU is down almost 2%. It is the only sector sporting a loss this year. In sharp contrast, the offensive oriented consumer discretionary sector is the big winner so far.
