What Happened Today?

We welcomed back Tom to the show after his vacation!

Cyber Monday Stock Review:

With Cyber Monday finishing up yesterday, Tom and Erin decided to look at some of the major online retailers to see how they were responding to higher consumer confidence and holiday bump. Interestingly, they noted that many of the retailers were showing previous gaps up and rallies. Here were two that Erin looked at:

SCTR Movers: Erin navigated us from the member homepage to the "SCTR Report" located in your Member Control Panel. From there she showed us how to sort by sector or industry group. Since the focus was on consumer discretionary, she sorted it and found what the SCTRs looked like on those stocks in the table. Second, she showed us how to use the member homepage to click on SCTRs and "Top Up" to find the big movers of the day. She called these up in CandleGlance and reviewed some of those charts.

Ten in Ten Before One: In this regular segment, Tom reviews ten charts in ten minutes with Erin's comments and comments from the "peanut gallery" peppered in there. Send in your symbol requests via Twitter (@mktwatcherslive) or email ( or live chat box before the show and we'll try and add them. Symbols reviewed today: DKS, VFF.TO, CAI, UNH, IYT, ILMN, NBR, GE, UTX and CCE.  You'll find all of the charts in the MarketWatchers LIVE ChartList, located at the top of the MarketWatchers blog homepage.

Technical Scan Tuesday: On Tuesday, Tom and Erin reserve the final segment to talk about technical scans. Today Erin showed everyone how to adjust a pre-defined scan to suit your needs. She called up the first pre-defined scan for "New 52-Week Highs". Once you click on the stock listing, there is a link in the upper right-hand corner that allows you to "Edit Scan". Since we were focusing on cyclicals and retailers, she showed how to add search criteria that would only pick up new 52-week highs on either the cyclicals group or just the retailers. You'll want to review the final 10 minutes of the show to see the details.

Looking Forward:

Tune in on Wednesday at 12:00p - 1:30p EST on 11/29. Julius de Kempenaer will join us to talk RRG charting! His first visit to the show was such a hit--we've had many requests to bring him back! Tomorrow's the day!
