Java Troubleshooting - Step 2
At this point, we know that you have a working copy of Java in your computer. However, it turns out that not all versions of Java were created equal. Our applets need a relatively recent version of Java in order to work properly. Java versions that were created before 2000 will cause problems for us. This next test will make sure that you have an up-to-date version of Java.
Here is the second test applet:
Once you are certain that the applet has finished downloading, look at the results and click on one of the following buttons:
- If you see a green rectangle with the words "Test #2 Passed!", then Click Here to move on to Step 3.
- If you see a big red rectangle with the words "Test Failed!", then Click Here to learn more about the problem.
- If nothing appears (or you just see a gray rectangle) and you are sure that your computer passed the first test, try pressing your browser's "Refresh" button to reload this page. If that doesn't work then Click Here to learn more about the problem.
Eureka!
You've helped us narrow down the problem! It appears that you have an outdated version of Java installed in your computer. We require Java version 1.4 or higher in order to work correctly. Please click on the following link to install the official version of Java from Sun Microsystems - http://java.com. Be sure to restart your computer after completing the installation.
If you have gone through the installation process and are still failing this test, your browser is probably ignoring the new version of Java from Sun and incorrectly using Microsoft's old version of Java. Please review the information on this page for suggestions on how to correctly configure things.
