David England: Buy Recommendation III

It is time for another "best of breed" books that make great gifts for investors and traders. My heart is in financial education, with the goal "to teach my students how to make better-educated financial decisions.”

It is rare to find a book on trading--not condescending or over technical.  The “New Trading for a Living” by Dr. Alexander Elder hits the mark.  This is a revised version of the international best-selling book, “Trading for a Living.”  There is an accompanying study guide with the same name.  Don’t save money and buy one without the other.  See below for the reasons why.

Dr. Elder is a unique individual.  While growing up in Estonia, he entered medical school at 16.  At 23, while working as a ship’s doctor, he jumped a Soviet Ship in Africa and received political asylum in the United States. Elder worked as a psychiatrist in New York City and taught at Columbia University. His expertise as a psychiatrist provided a unique insight into the psychology of trading.

Why is Elder’s work so unique?  With hundreds of trading books on the market, he goes three steps beyond most. He provides insight on the psychological challenges of trading, offers trading tactics, money management strategies and record keeping practices, and his study guide gives the reader an excellent “assessment tool” for very important personal feedback.

In the ‘90s, when developing my investment and trading classes, no matter where he was globally, Dr. Alexander Elder answered all questions—usually within the day.  This is the sign of a teacher with education in his heart.

The bottom line for private or institutional traders: I highly recommend this book and study guide.  Once again, don’t read one without the other!

Plan your work, work your plan and share your harvest!
