| Hello, Fellow ChartWatchers! |
A week of fresh highs and silver surprises.
The stock market had a strong showing this week. The S&P 500 ($SPX) and Nasdaq Composite ($COMPQ) closed at fresh highs on Thursday. We saw a bit of a dip on Friday, but overall, the stock market looks healthy and upbeat.
It wasn’t just stocks that were celebrating.
Crypto and commodities join the party!
Bitcoin ($BTCUSD) broke out of a consolidation and closed at a record high, ending the week shy of $118K. That’s a huge move! Keep an eye on crypto next week — Congress is set to review several digital asset regulations, which could stir up more activity in the space.
Silver has been shining too, thanks in part to demand from the semiconductors and solar energy industries. Speaking of semiconductors, they’ve been in record territory with NVDIA Corp. (NVDA) once again leading the charge. The semiconductor rally may be giving silver the extra boost. The iShares Silver Trust ETF (SLV) was up 3.79%, reaching levels we haven’t seen since early 2012. Gold also inched higher, though not quite as dramatically as silver.
Take a look at the one-year Percent Performance chart below. You’ll see Bitcoin well ahead of the pack, with gold, silver, and the S&P 500 (via SPY) trailing behind. Among these, SPY is the laggard, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
This type of performance tells us that investors are feeling optimistic and willing to take on more risk, a positive sign for stocks, crypto, and precious metals. Keep in mind that when markets stretch too far too fast, a pullback can happen. It’s nothing to worry about. Pullbacks are healthy and can open the door for new opportunities.
