Gold Tries To Breakout 2018-02-15 Video

by Greg Schnell

Gold is trying to breakout again. We have seen this movie multiple times. The big question is the US Dollar.  The five year picture for Gold is even more interesting. What makes the gold trade more compelling is the breakout in the Yen. So that looks pretty good. More in just a little bit lower on this article. I will be on MarketWatchers Live on Wednesday February 21st to cover off this Gold setup as well as discuss the book in more detail. You can follow this link to the Webinars tab on StockCharts.com. Commodities Get Crushed 2018-02-08 With Video

by Greg Schnell

Commodities got crushed with the overall market dropping back. The size of the moves in just about everything has surprised everyone. The people who were bearish finally got their pullback convincing them they were right. Part of getting pullbacks right is timeliness. We had noticed some softness as the previous headlines of the videos demonstrated, but sometimes the drop is a long drawn out affair, other times, not so much. I think the current pullback (gulp) qualifies as a not-so-gentle pullback.  In the video I cover off a lot of issues. On the equity indexes, there Read More

Lots Of Rollover On Commodity Charts 2018-02-01 Video

by Greg Schnell

Gold and Silver stall Oil keeps climbing Natural Gas forgets to keep climbing Lithium, Rare Earth Metals, Copper stall Corn, Soya bean, Wheat break trend lines Gold is building an inside bar this week. While the end of the month shows January finishing just below resistance, everything on this chart suggests $GOLD wants to go higher. The volume last week on the surge towards resistance was bullish. While the price pauses here, keep your eyes tuned. If this starts to move, it should be dramatic. The PPO breaking out above the 18-month trend line is important. This would be one of Read More

The Dollar Gets Bucked Off 2018-01-25 Video Recording

by Greg Schnell

The dollar fell harder than a rodeo cowboy flying off a bull this week. Getting bucked off of support, the dollar fell to a technically important low. The spike down marked some very important changes in trend. At this point, declaring a bear market in the dollar seems pretty obvious. By crashing below the low at 91.33, it has become very clear that the dollar is breaking down. I find the daily chart shows the damage, but the real signal damage (indicator signals) is on the weekly chart. On the daily chart above, the RSI on the most Read More

Commodities Pause 2018-01-18 Recording

by Greg Schnell

Oil Natural Gas, Gold, Silver flat week to week Two down days in one week! Breadth is still broad Recording available Here's West Texas Crude ($WTIC). After a run like oil has had, it is not a surprise to see a pause in the bullish run higher. The MACD logged a higher high matching the higher high in price. So there is no divergence yet. There does not have to be divergence in price and momentum, but in something as largely traded as crude oil, the chart is more likely to display some divergence. Here is crude oil Read More

Why The Gold Trade Becomes Hard Work This Week

by Greg Schnell

Hindsight is a beautiful thing when asking where to draw a trend line. It’s always obvious after. It is not obvious as the market evolves. For the GDX:GLD ratio, it started to create a little hook on top this week. I have a trend line on GDX:GLD ALWAYS. However, sometimes the ratio pulls back, then surges to higher ground. Almost every time, before the final roll over, it makes a pullback, then goes on another run. The word that makes that sentence hard is the word 'almost’. On the chart below, notice how many little pullbacks the ratio in the top panel had from February to August 2016 Read More

Commodities Countdown Recording With Greg Schnell 2017-12-28

by Greg Schnell

This weeks Commodities Countdown covers off what I expect from a big bull run in Commodities. I cover off the gap up in Natural Gas, crude oil over $60, Gold and Silver testing important trend lines and resistance. The big trade of 2018 which I think will be the $USD. The recording goes into big details on all of these trades. The steel ETF is breaking out to new 5-year highs, Copper hit 4-year highs this week, Aluminum popped up as well. Probably the most bullish sign on the charts was the outside month on the $CRB index. It tested lower and looks to close at the top Read More
